Essential training for those who spend time off the beaten path

Zion Adventure Company, in conjunction with Wilderness Medical Associates, is excited to offer the best value and training in outdoor safety and Wilderness First Responder in the United States. This specialized training, available to anyone 18 years or older, enables backcountry enthusiasts to identify, evaluate, and treat emergencies in remote backcountry settings. Learn to predict, prevent, diagnose, and treat illnesses and injuries, making the terrain you love a safer place to enjoy.

Comprehensive instruction

The Wilderness First Responder curriculum uses the principles of long-term care, improvised resources, and varying environmental conditions as the framework for learning. Now the most widely recognized and most often required outdoor leader certification, the Wilderness First Responder course was first developed and taught by SOLO (Stonehearth Open Learning Opportunity of NH) in the mid-1980's. Created to provide outdoor leaders, guides, and rangers with the knowledge needed to deal with crises in remote settings, this 80-hour certification course meets or exceeds DOT (Department of Transportation) National Standards for First Responder with additional protocols for extended-care situations. Today this course is taught by many organizations, all of whom are required to meet the DOT standards prior to issuing certificates to students. The intimate classroom environment makes this training course a great opportunity not only for outdoor professionals, but ANYONE who spends time outdoors and wants to become a stronger risk manager.

Experienced Instructors and Invested Teachers

The great value of this course is most clearly represented by the elite faculty, all of whom have extensive backcountry medical experience.

Your course instructors are passionate about the outdoors, enough so that they pass their knowledge on to you without charging you for their time. Most are volunteers whose full-time professions are in the emergency medical field. In short, none of us are doing this for the money, rather for the experience of enhancing and saving lives.

A complete course with practical applications, for anyone of any skill level

Students learn wilderness-specific treatments and interventions with hands-on experience. At the successful completion of the course, students will be awarded the Wilderness First Responder (WFR) offered by Wilderness Medical Associates. Injuries and illnesses are common and are frequently unique to the backcountry. This program was created to provide training to teach people an approach to medical problems in an environment where there is no formal medical help available. The goal of this course is to teach both practical and outdoor medical skills and offer a certification program to foster continued learning.
