Skip Zion if you are planning a whirl-wind tour of the Western Parks. Come back when you able to linger in this place for a while. Zion is special in an unspeakable way.
It could take a lifetime to get to know Zion. Those of us who live here must decide whether to keep this landscape of wonder a secret or help you experience the charm Zion Canyon offers in all its seasons. The Anasazi came here and abided for 700 years or so. Later, the Paiute arrived and were so awe-struck by Zion they would not enter the Upper Canyon. Today, people carry out summer pilgrimages June through September, leaving the more interesting times of year to a handful of residents. Hiking the trails of Zion reveals this Park as a true desert oasis locked in a gorge of vertical stone grandeur.
Please come visit this remarkable place.
Please take care to plan for more than a weekend.
There is only one Zion, and it is overwhleming.
