Please, Leave No Trace®

"Take only pictures, leave only footsteps, carve only memories."

Wherever or however you go, please know millions of people visit this place each year.We all need to do our part to LEAVE NO TRACE in the front country and the backcountry.

• Leave only footsteps. Carry out all you carry in, including toilet paper, diapers, cigarette butts, food scraps, etc. Although biodegradable trash may seem harmless and “natural,” alien species (e.g. apple cores) can have devastating effects on fragile ecosystems.

• Walk on marked and designated trails, avoiding fragile vegetation and short-cut routes made by unaware hikers.

• Kill only time. Avoid contacting or feeding the wildlife, particularly deer, squirrels, and chipmunks. These animals carry diseases and do occasionally bite. Every year rangers have to shoot and kill animals in the front country due to visitors’ incessant need to touch and feed our furry brethren.

• Do not carve your name in the sandstone or the trees. It not only violates NPS laws, but it is very bad karma. Very bad.

• Take only pictures. If every one of Zion’s 3 million annual visitors carried out just one rock, plant, or symbol from the Park, this place would look like the Nevada Nuclear Test Site.
