From Springdale, drive into the Park and pass the left-hand turn-off for the Zion Canyon Scenic Drive. Continue straight, up numerous switchbacks, through the incredible Zion-Mt. Carmel Tunnel, and on past the East Entrance Station. 2.5 miles after the East Entrance Station, turn left on North Fork Road. Follow pavement (ends after 5 miles at Ponderosa Lodge), then dirt roads for 13 miles to the only bridge which crosses a river. Turn left at the “T,” then 1/4 mile to the Chamberlain’s Ranch main gate. Park your vehicle, load up your backpacks, and lock up. Enter and close the gate. The Ranch and the first three miles of the hike are private property; the owners of this land kindly allow visitors hiking access through their land. Please do not disturb this property by defecating, collecting walking sticks, or making unreasonable noise.
Consider a hiring a shuttle to ease the logistics of your Narrows Thru-Hike. By using a shuttle service, you save a beating on your vehicles (the rutted North Fork Road is merciless) and a 3-hour, round-trip journey to retrieve your drop vehicle. Note: Standard cars with low clearance may sustain serious damage on North Fork road.
***North Fork Road is impassible to ALL VEHICLES after heavy rains, EVEN WITH 4-WHEEL DRIVE. If you have any doubts about road conditions, check with Zion Adventure Company or the Visitor's Center to assure you will not get stuck.***
