While the outdoors have had considerable influence on me throughout my youth through such capers as adventuring through the woods behind my house and the like, I would say that it took until my 20th summer for our relationship to get serious. While working as a forest technician in what I now proudly claim to be my home range, the Adirondacks, I first climbed a ADK High Peak in 2011, such was the unreal power of that experience that within three months I had bagged the remaining 45 peaks, becoming an ADK 46-r. Finishing on my twenty-first birthday no less was certainly cause for celebration.
Fast forward through two years of continued hiking, backpacking and other such adventures and I found myself graduating from SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry in Syracuse NY with two degrees in Forestry and no particular fire underneath me to seek out a "real person job."
Enter Zion Adventure Company.
After a memorable skype interview I was fortunate enough to be given the chance to make the 2400 mile drive to a place I'd never been, nor even seen anything remotely similar to, with about eight days to get ready to do so! An adventure in of itself. But as I've learned while being out here, sometimes you need to just jump in with both feet and see what comes of it. My time here so far has been nothing less than fantastic, everyday I get to embrace the ever present now with opportunities to get outdoors and be active, be it hiking, road or mountain biking, rock climbing or my favorite, canyoneering! And that's after a fun day at work! The community I belong to here in Springdale is nothing short of extraordinary and has and continues to have an amazing impact on my growth as a human being. As such it perpetually amazes me how large a single split-second decision many months ago has had on my life.
